Clay Hand Building 3 Session Workshops

Come and join us in Grounded HQ to take part in this kick starter pottery course over 3 weeks, 14th, 21st and 28th March 2025.

In these 2 hours classes, you will get to learn the basics of hand building pottery with pinch and coil techniques. We will also facilitate a 30 minutes session on the wheel for each attendee.

Hand building techniques allow you to create pottery with the most primitive tools we have, our own hands! You’ll be surprised at what you can produce over the term with some guidance and determination.

You will form your clay pieces in the first 2 classes, and refine their shape and texture. We will give you an option to imprint some texture and/or add some colour before they are left to dry before their first firing. The final class will focus on decorating and glazing before a second firing. When your pieces are finished, they can be collected from Grounded HQ or you can choose to have them posted for an additional cost.

We recommend wearing casual, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty (clay can be messy!) You can also bring an apron if you wish.

Appropriate for anyone interested in learning basic ceramic skills or want to develop their techniques. You may have never worked with clay before, want a refresher course, or you’d like to build on your skills.

Our workshop space is best suited to small groups, and for this type of course we like to give more attention to participants, so will limit class to 6 places.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or enquiries!

What a way to start 2024

I really enjoyed the experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. Emma our instructor was not only knowledgeable and skilled but also incredibly patient and encouraging. Their passion for pottery was infectious.
Over the course of the workshop, I was able to learn and refine various pottery techniques. The hands-on approach allowed me to truly immerse myself in the creative process, and I was amazed at how much progress I made in just three weeks. The small class size also meant that I received plenty of personalized attention and guidance, which was invaluable as a beginner.

The studio itself was well-equipped and maintained, providing a conducive environment for creativity to flourish. I particularly appreciated the abundance of tools and materials available for us to use, as well as the freedom to explore our own ideas while receiving expert feedback.

By the end of the workshop, I not only gained a newfound appreciation for the art of pottery but also left with a collection of pieces that I am truly proud of. The sense of accomplishment and fulfillment I felt was unparalleled.

I would highly recommend this pottery workshop to anyone, regardless of their skill level. Whether you're a complete novice or have some experience with pottery, the supportive environment and expert guidance provided here will undoubtedly help you grow as an artist. Thank you Emma for an unforgettable experience!"
